About me

Hi! My name is Nicolas Frossard (or APM), I’m a clinical psychologist since 2019 and a performance coach in esports since 2023. After I graduated in Cognitive Psychology from Lyon University, I decided to specialize in Cognitive & Behavioural Psychotherapy and later in Mental Coaching at UNIL-EPFL.

 

Leveraging my scientific psychology background, I prioritize the use of evidence-based tools. I stay current with research to enhance coaching methods and gather real-world data to organize assistance and quantitatively track progress. My core philosophy emphasizes that optimal performance thrives in a healthy context. To foster this, I advocate for interventions that are both humane and professional.

 

Here is a range of interventions I offer:

  • For players:

    • CBT-based interventions: explore the intricate connections between situations, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to understand the challenges and find the appropriate solutions.

    • Stress and Anxiety Management: Help develop personalized strategies for stress and anxiety reduction. Techniques such as mindfulness, deep breathing exercises, and progressive muscle relaxation can be incorporated into routines to maintain focus during intense sessions.

    • Goal Setting and Achievement: Work with players to set realistic, measurable, and time-bound goals. Breaking down overarching objectives into smaller, achievable tasks provides a sense of accomplishment and enhances motivation.

    • Performance Visualization: Implement visualization techniques to help players mentally rehearse success. This not only boosts confidence but also enhances muscle memory, ensuring that critical in-game decisions become automatic under pressure.

 

  • For coaches:

    • Focus on the coach's approach to players and other staff: Initiate discussions on leadership styles, assertiveness, motivational climate within the team, etc.

    • Proposing scientific insights: Providing insights from psychology and neuroscience to enhance and refine training methodologies.

    • Coping mechanisms: help coaches develop coping mechanisms tailored to help them effectively navigate the challenging situations inherent to their roles.

 

  • For teams:

    • Team Dynamics and Communication: work on interpersonal dynamics and foster healthy team relationships. Address conflicts, improve communication skills, and establish a positive team culture that supports both individual and collective success.

    • Resilience Building: provide players with psychological tools to bounce back from setbacks. Resilience is crucial for success in esports, where challenges and defeats are common on the path to victory.

    • Pre-Game Rituals and Mindset Conditioning: Work with players to develop pre-game routines that prepare players mentally for competition. Instil a champion's mindset through positive affirmations, visualization, and focus-enhancing rituals.
