About me

Nice to meet you!

My name is Eric (mental diff) Pooch. I am '98 born german sport psychologist who works with e-athletes on their performance, their mental health and their personality. At my business called "mental diff" I help my clients achieve their goals. My gaming background is mostly LoL (Peak: D3) and GW2. Would you mind me introducing myself thoroughly?

My Expertise and Experience: I achieved a bachelor degree in psychology (B. Sc.) as well as a master in sport psychology (M. Sc.) from the Business School Berlin. Adding to that, I got additional qualifications as a systemic coach from HISA (HafenCity Institute Of Systemic Education). I am a certified sport psychology expert by the german sport psychology association (asp) aswell as listed as a sport psychology expert by the federal german institute of sport sciences (BISp). Starting in 2021, I have acquired multiple hundreds of hours on 1on1 coaching with esport players plus seasons of experience working with teams like CPLAY and the esport player foundation. Additionally, I did plenty of workshops or presentations on topics like emotion regulation or tilt and how to deal with it as well as being a speaker for different occasions and audiences. Besides working as a professional sport psychologist, I am head of the ESBD-academy. The ESBD-academy (E-Sport-Bund Deutschland) provides certified esport coach licenses and unites grassroots esport on the federal level in Germany. I am responsible to further develop esport coaching standards and coordinate new ideas with the states in Germany to educate young and aspiring esport clubs, coaches and players.

My framework: In order for us both to be productive I provide my framework, which I need us to agree on before getting to work. These are non-negotiable:

1 trust as the basis of everything - without it, everything crumbles

2 honesty regarding both of us - I can not read your mind. Be honest and we find a solution

3 respect regarding both of us - tell me if something does not work and we fix it

4 you decide the topic, pace and depth we go into - I am here to adapt to you

5 you are responsible for what you take with you from our work - I am not a dentist

6 I want to make you independent from me - no more sessions than needed

7 my work will be providing process- and knowledge coaching - meaning I help you in the moment and provide knowledge for the future

8 mutual data privacy - no one will ever know that we work together if you desire that. Same goes for my expertise I provide for you

9 sport psychology vs. psychotherapy - If I sense a clinical diagnosis, I will refer you to a psychotherapist.

My sport psychology introduction course MENTAL: From my experience and scientific training I developed an applied sport psychology course, which you can understand as a starting point of our work:

1 Master your mindset

2 Establish your values

3 Negotiate your goals

4 Tame your emotions

5 Allow you to relax

6 Learn your routines

Let's find out if I can be of help to you. See you on the rift!

Q&A Session on Sport Psychology in Esports
This is a recording of the Esports Research Colloquium on March 14, 2023. The idea of this colloquium is to provide a forum for knowledge exchange, for networking, and for discussing research ideas. In this session Dr Michelle Pain, Eric Pooch, and Jon Brain discussed their experiences of providing sport psychology practices in esports.
Prime League Aftertalk
@Lazer_lennart speaks about working with Eric Pooch and why he would recommend every team to have a sport psychologist.
Hey Eric!
